It was only a matter of time before evangelical evangelism turned into this. “Churches seeking marketing-savvy breed of pastor”

anyone who has seen the film the big kahuna had to see it coming.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re selling Jesus or Buddha or civil rights or ‘How to Make Money in Real Estate With No Money Down.’ That doesn’t make you a human being; it makes you a marketing rep. If you want to talk to somebody honestly, as a human being, ask him about his kids. Find out what his dreams are – just to find out, for no other reason. Because as soon as you lay your hands on a conversation to steer it, it’s not a conversation anymore; it’s a pitch.

from the war on terror to the war on language

i recenlty listened to a hauwerwas lecture where stanly was musing over the mennonite poster.. ” a modest proposal for peace, that the christians of the world stop killing each other” he went on to talk about why homosexuals as a group are morally superior to christians as a group as they had somehow maganged to get themselves banned from the military. why can’t we get ourselves banned from the military? who wants the guy next to them in the foxhole praying for their enemy? or what if the christian pilots refused to bomb certain areas knowing that other christians lived in that particular area?

CAPTURE THE FLAG

when:
– 21 August 2005 @ ~ 8:00-8:30 PM

where: – TBD (Park of Roses?)

why: – Because CTF is fun

who: – we’re working on that, we probably need a minimum of 14 people, with a functional maximum of probably 24 people.

Capture the flag is a traditional outdoor game often played by children where two teams have a flag each and the objective is to capture the other team’s flag, located at the team’s ” base“, and bring it back to their own base. It is also a popular paintball game.

One variation of the game includes a “jail” area in addition to the flag on each team’s territory. If a member of one team gets tagged by a member of the second team in the second team’s territory, the tagged person must sit in jail either for a pre-determined time limit, or until an untagged member runs through the jail.

Norwich Rules are typically played with three tennis balls in each base. This game was revolutionized by the famous Mann/Mosenthal team, who altered the rules slightly and drastically improved this game. The jail is set up as in the variation above. There is no time limit, and one person can only carry one tennis ball at a time. To get out of jail, you must be tagged by a member of your team, and you get a free walk back.
